Arne Slot Insists He Is Secure and Retains The Club's Support After PSV Loss
Arne Slot conceded that it was natural for doubts to be raised about his position following another convincing loss against PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds endured their ninth loss in twelve games, representing the team's poorest streak since being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were taken apart by the Dutch league title holders on a punishing night at Anfield.
“I feel secure, things are alright, I have got plenty of backing from the top,” Slot commented.
“It's important to change things and secure a win obviously but if you are coaching a team and struggling then it is normal that questions are asked.”
He noted, “I'm comfortable with my situation. This isn't the initial instance I’ve been in a tough spot but it's crucial that we turned it around.”
Talks with The Board
Upon being questioned to elaborate on his discussions with the club's leadership, Slot revealed:
“We talk a lot. They assist to the team and for me and we discuss these matters but they don't phone me every single minute each day to say they trust me.”
He further stated, “During our regular conversations we have I sense the confidence. But I haven’t spoken to them since this match so far so let’s see.”
Persistent Issues and Squad Response
The manager lamented recurring shortcomings from his squad in their European defeat, specifically wasted chances and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was more forthright in his view of the current crisis.
“I don’t have the solutions. Truthfully, I don’t. I’m saying that to everybody,” the midfielder stated.
“It's simply not good enough. I don’t even need to wait to reflect. I'm beyond feeling anger inside. I’m at the point currently where I just don’t have the phrases.”
He continued, “It's tough because I play for the team I support. I’m a fan, and I've watched Liverpool since I was young.”
“In recent memory, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team experiencing a spell of this nature with performances so bad.”
He concluded, “However we still have the crest on our chest. And until that badge is gone, we’re always going to compete.”
“We’re going to try to get this team back to where it needs to be, prove again the values of this club and the reason it's called the top club in the planet.”
“However currently, things are bad and it needs to change.”
