Around 50 automobiles have been marked with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Cars, building surfaces and postboxes were marked, sometimes with swastikas, they announced in a official communication.
Police state they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a individual observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish substance.
The fluid had been placed in the pattern of a swastika, they added.
Police then discovered multiple other marked vehicles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are banned in Germany under laws outlawing the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Police say initial examinations indicate the liquid was likely human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no lead as to its source; officials are currently not informed of any harm in relation with the occurrence," they commented.
City officials announced they were working "to solve the case" and have appealed to the community for tips.
A high-ranking representative stated the incident made him stunned and had to be resolved promptly.
"This incident affects the center of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the far-right violent incident in 2020," he stated on a platform, referring to the murder of nine victims by a assailant aiming at people of immigrant origin in February 2020.
