Electronic Arts Tackles Sims 4 Corrupted Saves: "We Promise Openness"

Lately, players of The Sims 4 have encountered major problems with corrupted save files following a recent patch. In response, the developer unveiled a comprehensive plan in September, detailing the approach to fix the biggest bugs.

Pinpointing the Root Causes

Following thorough investigation, developers discovered two main causes for the save file corruption. First, temporary files—essential for game operations—are vanishing unexpectedly, leading to complete save corruption. Additionally, a separate issue with data tied to specific lots is trapping users in infinite loading loops, potentially linked to certain build behaviors like super-stuffed lots, regardless of modifications.

Short-Term Solutions and Precautions

To address the problem of overstuffed lots, the next update will deactivate for now the bb.increaserentalunitcap command. This feature enables gamers to place numerous Rental Units on Residential lots.

"We are disabling the Residential Rental Unit cheat with the next patch, as a preventative step while broader fixes are worked on," the company stated. "While we take player agency seriously, to err on the side of safety, this step is needed to reduce its possible harm."

However, many players are facing the infinite load and save corruption without using the cheat, prompting ongoing investigation into excessive save file size and associated problems.

Advanced Tools and Ongoing Efforts

Through a new announcement, the developer revealed that they have developed a custom Python script that assists in extracting, examining, and summarizing player save information submitted by the community.

On social media, the company restated its dedication to finding solutions and keeping players informed.

"We’ve committed to openness, and although we lack a complete solution at this time, progress is being made continuously," reads a latest message. "Thank you for your patience, your suggestions, and your passion for this beloved franchise."

The search for a long-term solution continues, with the developer promising to keep players updated as more information becomes available.
