Emma Raducanu wraps up the current season and has decided to continue with coach into the 2026 season.
Emma Raducanu reached the third round in three of the four major tournaments during the season.
The British tennis star Emma Raducanu has withdrawn from her final two events this season due to a health issue she has been battling for the last week and a half.
At 22 years old was scheduled to compete in tournaments in Tokyo and Hong Kong but has decided to fly home to regain her health prior to beginning plans for the 2026 season.
Those preparations will include her coach Francisco Roig, as both individuals will keep partnering in 2026.
She underwent blood pressure monitoring while playing the initial match against Ann Li in Wuhan and withdrew when behind 6-1 4-1 on a day with extreme humidity.
She again required medical attention at the Ningbo Open this week, where she fell in a three-set match to Zhu Lin, a Chinese wildcard in the opening round.
She was also playing with clear difficulty in the final set against Zhu due to the lower back problem that has been a concern at times this year.
Those results followed a positive campaign, in which she climbed into the international top 30 after more than three years since her previous ranking, finished with a trio of defeats.
The athlete was close to victory with three match points then was defeated by American player Jessica Pegula in round three in Beijing last month.
Raducanu won 28 victories this year and made it to the semi-final round in Washington, but her most impressive week was at the Miami event in March.
As Britain's top player advanced to the quarters of the WTA 1000 event, beating eighth seed Emma Navarro on the way then falling in three sets to Pegula, ranked fourth.
Her coach was Mark Petchey as coach from the Miami event through Wimbledon, with Francisco Roig stepping in for the US Open.
The initial agreement with the former trainer of Nadal was until the end of the season but they will keep working together, with a training block pencilled in for the end of the year.
The athlete revealed that the trial session with Roig post-Wimbledon was like a "black ops mission" as they aimed to maintain secrecy.
She came very close to defeating top-ranked Aryna Sabalenka at their first tournament together in August's Cincinnati tournament.
Roig was also with Raducanu in New York, where she advanced to round three prior to losing to Elena Rybakina, the 2022 Wimbledon winner.
