Gas Detonation Costs Three Carabinieri Amid Property Removal Operation in Italy
Three police officers perished and no fewer than 15 people sustained injuries in an apparently intentional blast caused by gas at a rural property in northern Italy.

The detonation was triggered as officers and emergency crews entered the residence in the vicinity of Verona to enforce an removal notice for a brother and sister trio in their late 50s and mid-60s.
Each of the three victims who died belonged to the Italian military police.
Investigation Developments
One male and one female were arrested at the site and one more individual who ran away following the incident was found shortly later. All three have been admitted to the hospital.
The explosion could be heard as far as 3 miles distant and images from the scene displayed the building turned into a heap of debris.
“We are in a period of mourning,” stated the Minister of the Interior Matteo Piantedosi, who mentioned that previous tries had been made to evict the three siblings in the past.

The leader of the region of Veneto, President Zaia, stated the property was facing an removal notice due to unpaid amounts accumulated by the property owners.
Mediators had been dispatched to speak to the siblings who had barricaded themselves into the property. When the police came shortly after 03:00 (01:00 GMT), officials suspect a family member triggered the detonation.
“Upon entering the house, we were confronted with an act of absolute madness,” local police chief Commander Papagno stated to reporters.
A gas canister had been set off, and the detonation immediately struck our officers,” he said.
Petrol bombs were also discovered at the residence, the Interior Minister said.
Injuries and Destruction
Injured individuals by the explosion included eleven more officers of the military police as well as three members of the state police and a firefighter.
Based on information from the Verona prosecutor, the property was in a poor condition and had was without power.
The official thought the explosion had happened on a floor above the doorway and stated to reporters it was a “deliberate and pre-planned murder”. Shortly before the incident, he revealed officers had “heard a whistle, likely the propane tanks being turned on”.
