The Actress Expresses Speaking About Donald Trump Would ‘Intensify Divisions’ That’s Ripping the Country Apart
Lawrence has expressed that she no longer feels appropriate to speak out regarding the Trump presidency, fearing it could intensify polarizing arguments and increase separation within the country.
‘I Question the Usefulness’, Explains the Actress
Speaking with media, she commented, “During the first Trump administration, I thought I was moving hastily like a chicken with my head cut off. But as we’ve learned, over multiple voting cycles, public figures have no real impact in any way on electoral choices.”
The actor went on, “Why continue? I’m just voicing my thoughts on something that’s going to add fuel to a fire dividing the nation apart.”
Shifting Views
The actress has spoken candidly about voting for both Republican and Democratic contenders over the years. Growing up with Republican parents in Kentucky, she supported John McCain in 2008 prior to switching to the Democratic party and stating she recognized during President Obama’s term that backing conservatives was opposing her personal freedoms as a female citizen.
Previous Comments
In 2015, she stated that Trump winning the presidency would be “the end of the world” and endorsed the Democratic candidate in the 2020 election. During the most recent election, she gave her endorsement to Kamala Harris, “since I think she’s an amazing candidate and I am confident that she will do whatever she can to protect women’s health rights.”
Industry Position
Lawrence was joined by numerous celebrities in her opposition to the former president as a candidate for re-election, but the minimal impact stars have over the electoral decisions was highlighted by Trump’s victory.
“The second term seems distinct,” commented Lawrence of Trump’s presidency. “As he stated his intentions. We knew what he did for his first term. He was very clear. And voters made that decision.”
Latest Film
The actor is highlighting Die, My Love, Lynne Ramsay’s drama in which she plays a young mom who faces challenges with her mental health in the countryside. Speaking at a press conference for the movie in Venice, the star spoke about the conflict in Gaza: “It’s frightening. It’s devastating. What’s happening is equivalent to a humanitarian crisis and it’s terrible.”
Wider Issues
The actress elaborated by saying that she was disappointed by “the disrespect in the discussions of U.S. political debates currently and how that is going to be commonplace to the kids today. It’s going to be normal to them that politicians lie.”
Lawrence sought to redirect anger about the situation to leaders rather than entertainers. “Concentrate on who is responsible,” she said, seen by observers as a reference to the declaration supported by numerous Hollywood professionals to boycott specific industry bodies.
Personal Connections
Jennifer Lawrence, who won an Oscar at a young age for her part in her breakout movie, is generating Oscar buzz for her performance in her latest project. Even though Lynne Ramsay has disputed the plot being interpreted as one of postpartum depression and mental illness, Lawrence shared that she did relate to aspects of her role’s experience after the birth of her second son, soon after filming concluded.
“There was concern for my son,” she commented, “imagining every negative outcome, and then second-guessing everything that I was trying. I was already in therapy, but I began using a medication called that medicine and I took it for two weeks and it was effective.”
Career Moments
Jennifer Lawrence also spoke about the freeing requirement of completing nude scenes in the project while she was expecting and couldn’t work out.
“There’s a freedom,” she said, of being forced to abandon insecurities. “Truly, I occasionally wonder where I’m like, How exactly do I differ between myself and a sex worker? But it doesn’t keep me up at night.”
