The New Animated Series' Opening Sequence Chose the Incorrect Critical Role Track
The Mighty Nein, the most recent animated series by Critical Role, unveiled a new opening credits. It showcases the beloved group of outcasts, outcasts, and rogues kicking ass and taking names, while also hinting at multiple agonizing personal histories for characters including Liam O'Brien's mage Caleb, and another actor's orc warlock, the character Fjord.
All in all, the intro looks amazing. But I couldn't help feeling that an element was missing in the music selection.
The intro employs "Welcome to the Continent", an exceptional composition created by producer and singer the talented musician. This piece originating from the soundtrack album of the same name, the second one released by the production company's music division Scanlan Shorthalt Music. It's a great sentimental option, and I believe that devotees of the sequel series will appreciate its presence.
But for me, The Mighty Nein's opening doesn't quite capture the excitement and excitement that accompanied the show's actual-play adventure. "It's Your Turn", composed by singer-songwriter Jason Charles Miller, was an instant classic in my view when it was first revealed in 2015, and it improved further when cast member Sam Riegel added lyrics to the melody for the animated Campaign 2 opening in 2018.
Featuring vocals from one actress, Laura Bailey, a co-star, as well as the writer, the song was memorable and enjoyable. Back then, I hadn't seen the second campaign at that point, but it was so infectious that I still saved it on my phone. It's a song that knows how to get you pumped before you dive into an installment of adventurous fun.
The Mighty Nein's opening with "the new song" doesn't strike the same chords for me. It's a grand composition, but based on my understanding of the group, I can't help but feel that its tone is a little off.
Naturally, Critical Role has stated that the animated show will have some changes and differences from the original live sessions. An adjusted mood for its intro seems to be among these.
This animated adventure will be available to watch on Prime Video from November 19. If you can't wait before that, or want a head start to get to know the personas of Critical Role's Campaign 2, the actual play are accessible on the audio platform and the video site.
