The Three Lions to Start Euro 2028 Campaign at the Etihad Stadium

The England national team will embark on their Euro 2028 adventure at the the home of Manchester City, on the condition that they achieve the expected entry for a competition taking place in most of the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland.

City’s stadium has not hosted an Three Lions match since May 2016, when Turkey were overcome 2-1 in a exhibition match, but is almost certain to stage the national team for their inaugural game on Saturday 10 June 2028.

England are set to play their final two group matches at Wembley, but, should they win their group, their last-16 tie would be held at Newcastle’s St James’ Park. Finishing second would mean commencing the elimination stage at Everton’s Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Tournament Kickoff and Demonstration

The event was inaugurated at an event in a London landmark on Wednesday evening. High-ranking officials from European football’s governing body and the host football associations were confronted as they approached the location by approximately 50 pro-Palestine demonstrators, who called for the Israeli team to be removed from international football because of the conflict in Gaza.

Placards were raised with slogans stating “Show Israel the red card” and “You are complicit”, while demonstrators chanted: “Kick Israel out.”

Championship Fixture List

The inaugural fixture of Euro 2028 will be staged at the the national stadium of Wales in the Welsh capital, on a Friday in June 2028, a match that will involve the Welsh team if they secure a place.

The national stadium will host the two semi-final matches and the title decider, which will be played on July 9, 2028 with a start time at 5pm.

It is anticipated that an earlier kick-off, which will also be implemented for UEFA Champions League finals from next season, will attract households and help reach a broader range of viewers.

Qualifying Teams

The Ireland are set to play their initial fixture at the Aviva Stadium and Scotland would play similarly at the national stadium of Scotland.

All four host countries’ teams will take part in the qualifying tournament; two guaranteed slots will be held in reserve for any that fail to qualify for the finals through that route.

Locations and Knockout Stage

The Birmingham venue and The North London arena complete the event’s nine venues. All will hold at least one playoff fixture, with the quarter-finals held at each country’s national stadium.

The qualifying draw will be staged in the Northern Irish capital, which was removed as a venue city last year when it became clear the proposed venue could not be renovated in time, on December 6, 2026.
