Toy Story 5 Teaser Pits Woody and Buzz Against a Tablet Computer
Exactly 30 years after the first Toy Story movie debuted, establishing Pixar as a leading film company and introducing audiences to beloved figures like the cowboy doll (the actor) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now household names.
In 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, offering a brief look into the storyline but keeping viewers curious how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Spooks the Gang
In the teaser reveals Bonnie — who received the toy collection when he left for college — receiving a latest toy, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She gets her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.
Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the toys appear to consider it as a danger coming to replace them, which it probably is.
Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
One thing the trailer avoids is why the sheriff is returned with his friends in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a new adventure with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), traveling with a carnival and helping giveaway items locate loving owners.
Certainly, the filmmakers will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him appear in Bonnie's room without warning is a little strange, though. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have come back with Woody. And what about Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?
Connections from the Previous Film
At the very least, some elements are continuing from the earlier movie. The final act the cowboy did before setting off for his fresh path was hand over his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (the voice actor), entrusting her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser shows the badge pinned to her outfit.
It is hoped she is remains the driving force among the toys.
Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
